Analyzing the Causes of Carpet Yellowing after Washing and Removing It
Serious problems can sometimes arise by improper washing or drying of the carpet without special attention to the appropriate instructions. The use of unreliable carpet cleaning services or improper washing at home may lead to problems such as folds, wrinkles, ripples, carpet asymmetry, unpleasant carpet smell, and so on

It is recommended to use reliable and high-quality carpet cleaning services to prevent possible damage to the carpet. Yellowing of the carpet or its fringes is one of the common problems after washing and drying the carpet, which is mainly due to the remaining dirt and dust. In the following, the methods to prevent carpet yellowing along with the causes and cures are provided by the Ekbatan Carpet Company (A brand as valuable as machine-made carpet).

The Main Causes of Carpet Yellowing After Washing:

1. Failure to dust before washing: The dust which remains in the carpet is one of the factors that play a significant role in after-wash yellowing. The first thing to note is that the carpet must be thoroughly vacuum cleaned before washing to remove the dust. If this is not done, the dust penetrates the carpet texture, and in some cases turns into mud. Ultimately, this dust remains in the carpet texture and leads to its yellowing.

2. The use of improper cleaners: Acidic, alkaline, and bleach cleaners or similar compounds should not be used to wash the carpet because it will damage the carpet yarn and texture. Apart from the fact that the use of such cleaners causes carpet yellowing, it also results in carpet dinginess, whitening, and also rotting. The best cleaner recommended is a mixture of carpet shampoo and lukewarm water, which does not damage the carpet texture while keeping it clean. It should be noted that the use of washing machine powders that contain enzymes also damages the texture of the carpet and changes the color of the carpet.

3. Failure to completely drain the water after carpet washing: Some may wonder how water causes the yellowing of the carpet or its fringes. When the carpet is being washed, a lot of dust is removed from the surface and mixed with water during rinsing. If this excess water is not completely drained from the carpet and remains in the texture, the carpet will turn yellow.

4. Rinsing the carpet again after unrolling it flat: As mentioned, it is necessary to remove the excess water thoroughly from the carpet with a mop, after which the carpet should be placed on a flat and sloped surface to completely drain the remaining water. If the carpet is rinsed again after unrolled flat, the excess water will remain in it cause yellow stains.

How to Deal with Carpet Yellowing

If the carpet turns yellow after improper washing and drying, the problem can be solved to some extent. The first solution is to mix a small amount of carpet shampoo with lukewarm water (never use hot or cold water) and pour this solution on a clean white cloth. Then, press the cloth on the part that has turned yellow to fix the problem (never rub the cloth on the carpet surface). To prevent the smell of moisture as well as the accumulation and growth of germs and fungi, dry the wet part with a hairdryer (refer to the article titled “How to Remove Smell of Moisture from Carpet and Keep It Properly” for more information).

Finally, avoid washing the carpet at home and be sure to use reliable carpet cleaning services to solve the above-mentioned problem.
